Athletics' Carlos Cortes: Tallies two extra-base hits in win
Cortes went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, a double, an additional RBI, an additional run scored and was hit by a pitch in Saturday's 15-1 win over the Nationals.
Cortes ripped an RBI double in the first inning before adding a solo homer in the seventh frame as part of the Athletics' offensive explosion. After a dreadful June at the plate, the outfielder has gone 10-for-28 (.357) with four extra-base hits (one homer), three RBI and five runs across nine games in July. Overall, Cortes is slashing .283/.360/.448 with seven homers, 25 RBI, 22 runs and a stolen base across 75 contests in 2026.

Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Blasts homer in blowout win
Soderstrom went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, two additional runs scored and was hit by a pitch in Saturday's 15-1 win over the Nationals.
Soderstrom added to the offensive explosion, blasting a two-run homer in the sixth inning to stretch the lead to 8-0. The left fielder has now gone deep in back-to-back games since returning from the All-Star break. On the year, the 24-year-old is slashing .245/.346/.484 with 16 homers, 46 RBI, 47 runs and a stolen base across 86 contests.

Athletics' Jeff McNeil: Tallies three hits in rout
McNeil went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI in a 15-1 thrashing of Washington on Saturday.
McNeil, who batted out of the No. 9 slot, was one of two Athletics to collect three hits Saturday -- the other was leadoff hitter Jacob Wilson. All three of McNeil's knocks were singles, but two of those hits knocked in a run. Prior to Saturday, the veteran infielder had gone 12 games without a multi-hit effort, batting just .152 (5-for-33) during that span.

Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Sets tone with leadoff homer
Wilson went 3-for-6 with a home run, three total runs and two total RBI in a 15-1 rout of the Nationals on Saturday.
Wilson foreshadowed a big day by the A's offense when he launched a leadoff long ball of Zack Littell in the bottom of the first inning. The third-year infielder added two more hits, including a run-scoring single in the seventh. Wilson has carried a strong end to the first half with a standout start to the second -- he now has a six-game hitting streak during which he's batting .458 (11-for-24), though Saturday marked his first RBI of that stretch.

Athletics' J.T. Ginn: Teases no-no in easy victory
Ginn (8-6) earned the win over Washington on Saturday, allowing one hit and issuing three walks while striking out seven batters over 6.1 scoreless innings.
The A's jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, and Ginn hit cruise control from there. He didn't allow a hit until the seventh frame, when Keibert Ruiz stroked a single to center field with one out. Manager Mark Kotsay decided that would be the final batter of Ginn's outing despite the fact that the hurler was at only 82 pitches. Though he fell short of etching his name in the history books, Ginn rebounded nicely from the eight-run, 4.1-frame blowup he posted against the White Sox in his final start of the first half. Even including that mauling, Ginn has nice numbers overall, posting an 8-6 record along with a 3.46 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 100:49 K:BB over 109.1 innings spanning 22 appearances (19 starts).

Athletics' Luis Severino: Several weeks away from return
Severino's (shoulder) recent MRI showed signs of healing, but manager Mark Kotsay indicated Saturday that the right-hander is several weeks away from a potential return to the rotation, Jason Burke of Roundtable.io reports.
Severino has yet to start a throwing program after he was lifted from his May 29 start with a right shoulder strain. "The hope is that the start of the throwing progression goes well and we can continue that, and hopefully build him up before it's too late to have a season for him," Kotsay said Saturday. The Athletics have, by far, the worst team ERA in the majors (6.85) since Severino went down with his injury. Once he's cleared to throw, he's expected to require several rehab starts before rejoining the rotation.

Athletics' Denzel Clarke: Nearing rehab assignment
Manager Mark Kotsay said Saturday that Clarke (hamstring) is nearing a rehab assignment, Jason Burke of Roundtable.io reports.
Clarke hasn't played since April 20 due to a bone bruise in his foot before suffering a hamstring strain during a rehab game in late May. While he still needs to increase the intensity of his running progression, the hope is Clarke is playing in rehab games in the next 7-10 days. He's expected to need 30-45 plate appearances in the minors before returning to the Athletics' lineup. Henry Bolte has been manning center field during Clarke's absence.

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Progressing to baseball activities
Gelof will begin baseball activities once the stitches on his right knee are removed Tuesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Gelof landed on the IL right before the All-Star break due to a right knee laceration. He'll resume baseball activities after his stitches are removed, and it's possible that Gelof may not need to embark on a rehab assignment before returning from the 10-day IL. He is slashing .273/.327/.476 with eight steals, 11 home runs and 29 RBI across 247 plate appearances this season.

Athletics' Nick Kurtz: Not ready for baseball activities
Kurtz (thumb) is currently participating only in range of motion and strengthening exercises, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Kurtz was placed on the injured list just before the All-Star break due to a right thumb capsule sprain. The Athletics should have a better sense of when Kurtz would return from the IL once he is cleared to participate in baseball activities. In the meantime, Tommy White and Jonah Heim will continue to see more work at first base while Kurtz is sidelined.

The Athletics designated Meneses for assignment Saturday.
Meneses was sent down to Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, and he'll now also lose his place on the 40-man roster to make room for Geoff Hartlieb, who was selected to the major-league roster Saturday. Meneses' .938 OPS in the minors could attract attention from teams looking for organizational depth, though the 34-year-old isn't likely to make much of an impact in the bigs.

The Athletics selected Hartlieb's contract from Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday.
With Justin Sterner (knee) headed for the injured list, the A's will turn to Hartlieb to provide depth to their bullpen. The 32-year-old righty will presumably be limited to middle-relief duty after giving up five earned runs in 8.2 innings during a stint with the big club in late June.

Athletics' Justin Sterner: Lands on IL
The Athletics placed Sterner on the 15-day injured list Saturday with right knee chondromalacia.
Sterner gave up six earned runs in just one-third of an inning during Friday's contest, and he'll now be sidelined until at least Aug. 2 due to his knee injury. Geoff Hartlieb will come up from Triple-A Las Vegas to fill the vacancy in the Athletics' bullpen.

Athletics' Gage Jump: Lasts 3.2 innings in loss
Jump (3-5) was tagged with the loss Friday against the Nationals after allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks across 3.2 innings. He struck out eight.
The eight punchouts were a nice thing to see, as Jump ended just one away from matching his previous season-high mark in that category, but that was the lone positive aspect of this outing for the 23-year-old southpaw. He's now given up at least four runs in three of his last four appearances, and he's failed to complete four innings in two of the last three. He owns a woeful 7.41 ERA and 2.06 WHIP across 17 innings over the aforementioned four-game stretch. His next start is scheduled to be on the road against the Diamondbacks.

Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Launches homer Friday
Langeliers went 1-for-4 with a home run and three strikeouts in Friday's loss to the Nationals.
Langeliers went yard in the final game before the All-Star break and picked it up right where he left off, slugging his 22nd homer of the season with a blast to left field in the bottom of the ninth. Langeliers ranks second among all MLB catchers in homers and looks on pace to surpass the career-high mark of 31 long balls he established last season.
