Ohtani returned to the lineup Monday following a four-game absence, but he felt more discomfort this week and will now be forced to the shelf due to his nagging knee and biceps injuries. As a two-way player, he will have to be placed on the 15-day IL as opposed to the 10-day IL, per MLB rules. The Dodgers will bring up top prospect Josue De Paula to take on the lion's share of the DH work while Ohtani is out.

Yamamoto limited the damage to an Elly De La Cruz solo home run in the fourth inning. This victory snapped a three-start winless stretch for Yamamoto, who continues to be among the most reliable starters in baseball. This was his third double-digit strikeout performance of the year. He has pitched to a 2.62 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 171:39 K:BB through 172 innings over 26 starts. Yamamoto is lined up to make his next start in a rematch in Cincinnati next week.
The Dodgers are expected to select De Paula's contract from Double-A Tulsa before Friday's game against Miami, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.
Viewed as the top prospect in the Dodgers' farm system, De Paula will skip Triple-A and head straight to the majors after slashing .302/.400/.539 with 26 homers, 101 RBI, 105 runs scored and 31 steals with the Drillers. The 21-year-old will help to bolster the Dodgers' corner-outfield depth but could immediately slot into the big club's starting nine if Shohei Ohtani (knee/biceps/neck) requires a stint on the IL.
