Top Senators News

  • Senators' Hayden Hodgson: Loaned to AHL

Hodgson was loaned to AHL Belleville by the Senators, the team announced Sunday.

Hodgson has appeared in nine games with the Senators this season, but he has averaged a mere 6:22 of ice time per night. That included just 1:53 of ice time during Saturday's game against the Blues. The 29-year-old will return to AHL Belleville, where he has four points (three goals, one assist) in 11 games.

  • Senators' Fabian Zetterlund: Nets power-play goal

Zetterlund scored a power-play goal in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Blues.

Zetterlund found the back of the net late in the third period when the Senators had the man advantage, but that late goal wasn't enough to provide a spark and light a comeback. Zetterlund has scored five goals in Ottawa's last eight games, and this has clearly been his most productive stretch of the campaign. Prior to this run, Zetterlund had scored just one goal in 20 games.

  • Senators' Linus Ullmark: Gives up two goals Saturday

Ullmark stopped 18 of 20 shots in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Blues.

Ullmark was beaten twice by Jake Neighbours, and that was enough to hand the Senators a defeat, as they mustered only one goal despite taking 42 shots. Ullmark has been inconsistent of late and owns a 4-3-1 record over his last eight games, posting a 2.61 GAA and an .894 save percentage over that span.

  • Senators' Artem Zub: Returns to action Saturday

Zub (lower body) will be back in action Saturday against St. Louis, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports.

Zub sat out Thursday against the Rangers. He has three goals, 11 points, 31 hits and 39 blocked shots across 26 games this season.

  • Senators' Linus Ullmark: First off Saturday

Ullmark was the first goalie off the ice at the morning skate, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports, indicating he will patrol the home crease against St. Louis on Saturday.

Ullmark is coming off a 20-save performance in Tuesday's 5-2 win over Montreal. He has a 10-6-4 record with a 3.05 GAA and an .876 save percentage through 20 appearances this season. St. Louis sits 30th in the league with 2.54 goals per game this campaign.

  • Senators' Lars Eller: Unavailable Saturday

Eller (undisclosed) won't play against St. Louis on Saturday, per Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia.

Eller will miss his second straight game and remains day-to-day. He has contributed two goals, four assists, 24 shots on net, 16 blocked shots and 19 hits across 26 appearances this season. With Eller and Shane Pinto (lower body) unavailable, Ottawa summoned Hayden Hodgson from AHL Belleville on Saturday.

  • Senators' Shane Pinto: Moves to IR

Pinto (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, per the NHL media site.

Ottawa recalled Hayden Hodgson from AHL Belleville in a corresponding move. Pinto sustained the injury in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Rangers. He has 12 goals, 18 points, 65 shots on net, 18 blocked shots and 34 hits across 27 appearances this season. According to Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia, Pinto will miss at least two weeks, but the 25-year-old forward could be out longer than that.

  • Senators' Hayden Hodgson: Summoned from AHL

Hodgson was recalled from AHL Belleville on Saturday.

Ottawa placed Shane Pinto (lower body) on injured reserve in a corresponding move. Hodgson played in eight NHL games in November but didn't hit the scoresheet while posting 21 hits. He will likely return to the lineup against the Blues on Saturday.

  • Senators' Blake Montgomery: Logs two helpers in Wisconsin win

Montgomery had two assists in the University of Wisconsin's 7-4 win over the University of Notre Dame on Friday.

Montgomery, a fourth-round pick of the Senators in 2024, is up to seven goals and four helpers through 15 games this season. He made the jump to the NCAA after a 50-point effort over 51 regular-season games with OHL London last year. The adjustment to a slightly tougher level of hockey explains his slight dip in scoring efficiency, but the 20-year-old is still doing fine for the Badgers.

  • Senators' Dylan Cozens: Strikes on power play in loss

Cozens scored a power-play goal on three shots, added three hits and went minus-2 in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Rangers.

Cozens ended his five-game point drought with the tally. He was consistent for most of October, but his offense over the last month or so has been streaky. For the season, the 24-year-old center is at nine goals, 17 points (10 on the power play), 59 shots on net, 84 hits, 20 PIM and a minus-12 rating through 27 contests. Cozens is in a top-six role and on the first power-play unit, which puts him in a position to succeed.

  • Senators' Jake Sanderson: Sparks power play Thursday

Sanderson notched two power-play assists in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Rangers.

The 23-year-old blueliner helped set up tallies by Dylan Cozens in the first period and Drake Batherson in the third, but the Senators' offense couldn't get anything going at even strength. Sanderson extended his point streak to five games with the performance, a hot stretch in which he's produced three goals and eight points with 11 shots on net, 12 blocked shots and a minus-1 rating.

  • Senators' Drake Batherson: Two PP points in loss

Batherson scored a goal and added an assist, both on the power play, in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Rangers.

It was Batherson's first multi-point performance in over a month, and his first points on the power play since Oct. 27. The 27-year-old winger has two goals and three points in the first two games of December, but that comes on the heels of a sluggish stretch in which he managed just three goals and six points over the final 12 contests in November. On the season, Batherson's up to 10 goals and 24 points in 24 games as he looks to reach the 70-point plateau for the first time in his career.

  • Senators' Leevi Merilainen: Stuck with third straight loss

Merilainen stopped 23 of 26 shots in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Rangers, with New York's final tally getting scored into an empty net.

Merilainen has seen his workload pick up of late, as he's started three of the last six games for the Sens. The results haven't been there -- the 23-year-old has lost all three of those starts, giving up nine goals on 79 shots (3.13 GAA and .886 save percentage) during the skid, but those numbers are actually an improvement on his 3.36 GAA and .876 save percentage for the season. Ottawa seems intent on making sure Linus Ullmark doesn't get overworked, but Merilainen isn't inspiring much confidence when he does find himself in the crease.

  • Senators' Shane Pinto: Hurt in Thursday's game

Pinto (lower body) was injured versus the Rangers on Thursday and won't return to the game.

Pinto can be considered day-to-day until more information is available. He was injured on a hit in the first period. His status should be updated prior to Saturday's game versus the Blues.

  • Senators' Artem Zub: Unavailable Thursday

Zub (lower body) won't be in the lineup against the Rangers on Thursday, per TSN 1200 Ottawa.

Head coach Travis Green said Thursday that Zub is day-to-day. The defenseman has three goals, eight assists, 39 blocked shots and 31 hits across 26 appearances this season. Look for Dennis Gilbert to make his season debut on the blue line, replacing Zub.

  • Senators' Lars Eller: Out of action Thursday

Eller (undisclosed) will sit out Thursday's game against the Rangers, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports.

Eller was likely injured Tuesday in Montreal, as he logged only 10:49 of ice time. He has been without a point in his last 14 games and has two goals and six points in 26 appearances this season. The Senators recalled Stephen Halliday from AHL Belleville to replace Eller in the lineup.

... See More ... See Less
  • Senators' Thomas Chabot: Likely out until mid-December

Head coach Travis Green said Thursday that Chabot (upper body) is expected to miss approximately 10 more days, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports.

Chabot has appeared in just one of the Senators' last nine games, and he was placed on injured reserve Saturday. While he's already eligible to return, he'll require more time on the shelf before he's in the mix to return to game action. Dennis Gilbert is slated to make his season debut Thursday against the Rangers as the Senators continue to adjust their defensive pairings in Chabot's absence.
